How can I help my child practice at home?

Standard

Setting up a dedicated art area at home can be the best way to encourage practice. This area should be private, free from prying eyes of adults or hands of younger siblings, and quiet, with the option of music playing in the background. Access to a clean drawing surface, art supplies, and inspirational magazines, books, and art materials are enormously helpful. Setting aside a specific time for art-making can help, as well. Every family is different. Do what seems to work for your child. Don’t press too hard to have finished artworks in front of you. Students’ work at home will almost never match the work done in class. The important thing is that they are doing SOMETHING. Encourage that. Try to avoid corrective comments about specific details in the work. Instead, simply describe what you see, and let your child know that you are proud to have an artist in the family.

When will my art student bring something home?

Standard

In junior class we do a project per class you child will take their finished work home on the day.

At senior and intermediary  level we teach lots of technique when exploring each new medium, and we encourage our artists to take their time and savor this beautiful process. Some projects last 2-4 weeks, and you will have something lovely for your walls when we’re done.

What will my child learn?

Standard

We provide instruction based on each student’s age and skills. First, we work on helping a student improve their drawing skills by focusing on the use of shape, volume, perspective and shading. After a student has mastered these concepts, we continue our instructional focus by developing drawing and painting skills using different media (pencil, charcoal, watercolor, pastel and acrylic) based on the student’s feedback and preferences. Measurable results can be achieved by each student after 12 weeks of continuous instruction.

Can I come on a different day and time each week?

Standard

Yes you can change days and times.

Senior students are welcome during my Tuesday & Thursday 4:00.

The only time that is just for juniors is saturday morning 9:45 to 10:45 class.

Look at my class timetable and just text me to let me know.

Am I required to stay while my child is in a class or taking art lessons?

Standard

No it is best for the student to be focused on their art and expressing themselves and not having to divide their attention between their art and their parents.

Please note for child protection parents without Garda clearance through the school can not stay in the classroom during classes.
